Im so happy to have Jenny from Days of Chalk and Chocolate as my guest poster today!  I love her blog!  And if youre looking for me, Ill be over sharing some projects at her place.  

Hi friends!  My name is Jenny and I blog over at Days of Chalk and Chocolate. Thank you so much Kristen for having me today!  Its always fun to reach out to bloggers and trade places!  You can find Kristen over at Days of Chalk and Chocolate today too!
As the seasons change most of us start dreaming of ways to decorate our homes to reflect that seasons particular elements and spring is one of my favorites!  Its a time when I crave freshening up my winter home with pale, soft colors, flowers, and things that represent a new beginning.  I have been trying to think of something new and springy I can hang on my front door and I keep coming back to my favorite wreath:  the ruffle wreath!  The soft, feminine ruffle is always sweet and fresh looking and you can adapt it to any occasion, season, or holiday just by using different colors!
I have made a couple of versions of the ruffle wreath. I made a linen and satin flower version for my sister last spring.  I love the way it turned out and Im so glad I didnt muck it up with too much decoration. Its subtle and I like that!

My next ruffle wreath was one I did for fall. I had found some teal corduroy in the remnant bin at Joannes and I was inspired to use it as an alternative color to the oranges, browns, and golds that are always so popular. Here is my tutorial.

What a fascinating blog

Check this one out: Life in 120 Square Feet --its inspiring!

We dont LIVE in the Shed of Reality, though we could.  We have heat, a source of water, a hot plate for tea or cooking.  We even have AC, which is a necessity for me after a bout of heat exhaustion a few years ago.  I do spend hours a day here, year round...its sanctuary, studio, sacred space, wonderful for entertaining a few friends, healing, peaceful, challenging, and always something to see beyond those big windows.

It makes me aware of what is actually necessary.  For me, that means books and art supplies and a comfortable chair (or two, for sharing).

Mindfulness is almost inevitable, here.  Its a great place to meditate, exercise, paint, journal, or make music.  Ive never been sorry we spent that IRS refund to make all this possible!

Blog Swap Welcome Life on Mars!

Im really excited to have my first ever guest blogger today!  Welcome Maury from Life on Mars!  And if youre looking for me - Ill be over at Maurys site for the day!

Hi! I’m Maury from Life on Mars. My husband and I recently purchased a new-to-us house in South Carolina and we’ve been updating it room by room.



So far, we’ve tackled the Family Room, the Kitchen (but there’s much more to come on that), the Dining Room, the Sunroom (completed the whole room for just $400!) and the Powder Room. Whew… that makes me tired just thinking about it.



My favorite room so far has been the Powder Room. I’m on a serious stenciling kick these days. What’s not to love? It’s like wallpaper, but way easier to put up or change. Plus, there are so many different patterns and interesting ways to do it. This ain’t your Momma’s border stencils.



The Powder Room was such a dull space before:









Yep that’s a full on shot of our toilet. Nice, right? I was trying to get the “Before” of the walls and floor, but you’d think I’d have shut the lid.



Now, with a Damask stencil in Sterling Silver paint, the room is like a little jewelry box:

It’s probably my favorite project that I’ve done so far.



So, I decided to keep with a good thing and stenciled an accent wall in our bedroom last week:





I used a pearl white this time. It’s very subtle and the light catches it just right.



I’m keeping the completed project hidden until the final reveal of our master. I’m hoping to do our Master Bedroom reveal in the next week, so please be sure to come by Life on Mars and check it out! It’s probably going to replace my Powder Room as my favorite!

I think its darn cool to get an email from another blogger with words like "you are funny"...."I love your work"....Partly because you always want to know how you come across to others.

Thoughts like "is this too much" or "I dont want to sound like a know it all" invariably  cross my mind when I am writing.  The thing about blogging is it can be slightly narcissistic....after it all its about "you" and what youre up to.  Then you add all the wonderful comments that mostly strangers leave and there you go skipping through life like you own the place.

Autumn from Design Dump kindly said those words to me last week when she asked me to participate in this tour.  Yeah.....I wasnt about to say no and burst her "Sherika" bubble right?

Lets take a look at this talented Salt Lake designers work.

Last year she participated in the ORC with her office and boy was I jealous.  Mine looks like a room on "Hoarders".

Then you have this nursery....

So eclectic and funky....love it!

I remember watching this bathroom come together.  Crazy about this wallpaper.

Or when she got a hold of this dining room which now serves double duty as a library.

Girl can knock out a design board which make mine look scribbling from a kid at pre school.

And.....here are my thoughts.

Why do I write/create what I do?

Heck I dont know....how about the fact that one day I just said "I want to shout my thoughts to the world and then read what people would say about it!"  As far as design.....I cant do math so it seemed like design would be a good alternative.  Little did I know that invoicing would would take some of that "fun" away:)

How does my style differ from others in my genre?

Oh Im all over the place.  I might not like a particular style for myself but I can totally appreciate a well done space.   If I had to pin it down it would be casual, functional and well edited rooms.  Its no secret that I like neutrals.

What am I working on now?

I just announced that I am doing the ORC again and along with a few other clients fall is looking pretty busy!  

To continue the tour I am selecting another favorite designer and blog friend Mary Ann from Classic Casual Home.  

Ambush!  I better send her an email and let her know!

I think our styles are very similar.  Check it out...

She has just moved into a rental in SF and I love seeing how her things look all mixed up in different rooms.

We both share a love of neutrals, blue and Pyne Hollyhock fabric:)
