Madbean Collosalus MXR 117R Flanger

Madbean Collosalus MXR 117R Flanger

Its been a while but Ive been busy working on another Madbean project - the Collosalus, which is based on the classic MXR-117R flange unit.

Madbean rates the project at Genius level, mostly due to the sheer number of components and solder joints you have to make.

Stick with it and the results are superb! As before with the Firebomb project, I put all of the ordered parts and gubbins in a box prior to work so that when I came to starting I knew everything was just at hand. I tend to get the circuits built then spend some time working on graphics ideas and boxing up.

Here are some pictures of the build itself and Ill post pictures of the boxing when Im done with that.

As I mentioned above, this project took quite some time to complete, probably about 5 hours give or take. A lot of this time was taken with verifying the component values (measuring resistor and cap ratings).

Another aspect of the build which was time consuming but is my preferred way of working, is the fact that I check continuity after EVERY SOLDER. Yep, this sounds completely anal and way over the top, but I figured that with a kit with so many parts and solders, itd make sense to troubleshoot as I went along. I didnt fancy the prospect of joint checking and continuity when everything was in place so I took the time to do it as I went. As Im still learning, I dont mind doing this to check my soldering technique and to make sure everything is as it should be.

Back at the house. All ICs in and the cap at C22 done. Now ready to test
